This week’s round up of the polls

Posted on November 12, 2010

What would you rather do? If there’s one thing we’re fans of at Quext, it’s polls. The amount of information you can glean from them is exceptional. However, we’re not talking the fuddy-duddy ones that you get in the papers about politics and the like; we’re talking about the user created ones.

For this week’s cutting edge public opinion, we’ve gone to www.ask500people.com.

Which is better: cake or pie?

This may seem like a pretty straightforward question. Cake or pie? Actually, it’s pretty close. Slightly pipping it is Cake (53%), although when you look closely at the stats some very interesting findings come out. If you analyse the vote by Gender on the whole, Women vote Cake and Men vote Pie.

Do you think fast food restaurants should be held responsible for obesity?

A little bit political, but nevertheless, popular poll online. Again, it’s a pretty decent split, with around 3 out of every 5 people believing that the fault lies with the person eating the food. No Gender voting differences here – both and men and women appear to vote in equal quantity for either option. Interestingly, if you look at the votes broken down by country, while the United States and the United Kingdom believe overwhelmingly that the restaurants are innocent the vote is the opposite way around in Iran and North Korea.

Apple or PC?

If you look at the hard statistics, it’s pretty obviously PC. In fact, from the most recent worldwide sales statistics Apple don’t feature in the top 6 PC shippers. In the polls, two-thirds of people would prefer PCs over Apple devices. Interestingly in the poll – which was around about 100 strong – not a single Male voted for Apple. Also, as you’d expect from the demographics, all the people who voted for Apple were under 25, fitting in with the image of Apple for younger users!

What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of Sweden?

Is it Sweden’s well respected Democracy and Politics? Perhaps their influential economy? Admit it – it’s IKEA. When asked in a poll, people said that the first thing that comes to mind with Sweden is their brands such as IKEA and Volvo. Perhaps the second most popular thing that comes to mind are the serious qualities I mentioned earlier? No, of course not. Next it’s ABBA. Here’s a question. If you take these popular brands out of the poll, what is the next thing that comes to the mind of Men with regards to Sweden. The Porn Industry. Perhaps unsurprisingly, this was the last thing that Women though of when thinking of Sweden.

Traffic Cameras? Good or Bad?

Given the reaction by most to even the utterance of the word “Speed Camera”, you’d think that this question would be square Bad. Well, it isn’t. In fact, it’s not even particularly neutral. When surveyed most people actually thought Traffic Cameras were a good thing. Boy Racers? The concept doesn’t seem to exist according to this poll. Both men and women were equally supportive of enforcement cameras. Crucially, this isn’t a country dependent response – answers from both the United States and the United Kingdom all favour speed cameras being a good thing. Remember that next time a brown letter from the police arrives on your mat!
